Description of the flag

It is a (proposed?) flag for “Bioceanic Patagonia”, i.e. all the lands in southern South America (though I believe that the Pacific side is not Patagonia but Araucanía). It was “introduced” in a TV programme and later on given to several (albeit Argentine only) authorities of the Patagonian region. Not really a micronation, sort of goodwill flag, but certainly not the flag of any existing organization.

As said, the Patagonia Bioceánica flag is a kind of unofficial goodwill symbol.

According to the website, the flag symbolizes the union between the Bi-oceanic Patagonia with South Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

The colors have the following meaning:

  • Green color stands for the continent and the islands
  • Sky blue stands for the Southern Seas
  • White stands for the ice in the continent and the Antarctica
The Southern Cross is shown as a symbol of the destiny of the people of Patagonia, and the red color stands for the love and passion for the Patagonia.

The flag was originally presented on July 2, 1997 in a TV program of the Argentine Province of Santa Cruz.

It was created by Horacio Olmos and Jorge Batinic.
