The coat of arms is prescribed by Decision Odluka o Grbu općine Tešanj (text), adopted on 17 March 1997 by the Municipal Council and published in the Municipal official gazette Službeni glasnik Općine Tešanj, No. 2.

The coat of arms is yellow with a green skyline of the old town with the clock-tower and minaret, a yellow wavy line below it and an open white book in the base. The coat of arms as originally adopted has the shield with pronounced angles in the base; since recently, a version with the shape of three simple arcs is used.
