The coat of Arms is one of Stjepan Vukcic Hrvatinic, Bosnian
noble and duke from 14th. century. The original medieval coat of
arms had a white background and two red stripes in the top of the
shield.

The province of Bosna used normally in the Austrian era a flag
red and yellow horizontally; the province of Herzegowina used the
same flag but reversed (yellow and red).

Meyers of 1897 says that Herzegovina was not a landesfarben.
Maybe they where adopted later?
But I don't think so, since Bosnia and Herzegovina were
administered as one land, and probably red over yellow would be
used in Herzegovina also, if any.

The supposed provincial flags of Bosnia and Herzegowina was
red over yellow, and yellow over red.. The Herzegowina flags is
yet unknown, but I read that both flags were in oficial use since
1908 (and until 1918).

The flag above was adopted in 1908, when Bosnia was annexed to
the Austro-Hungarian empire.
