Chittagong Hill Tracts is a mountain district where aborigine tribes live (ca 1.7 million people.) These animist of buddhist tribes remained isolated in the forsts, where they live from burn-and-slash agriculture. After the independence of Bangladesh, demographic pressure exerted by the lowlands inhabitants and tactless actions of the governments triggered insurrection "pockets".
