Description of the flag

Essen is located in the arrondissement of Antwerp, on the Belgian-Dutch border where trains from Roosendaal to Antwerp used to halt without even coffee being offered.

The flag is vertically divided blue-yellow, with the stylized coat of arms in canton.
The coat of arms has two ox-heads on top and below the yellow chevron a lying sheep.

The flag was adopted by Municipal decision 8 November 1995, confirmed by Ministerial decision 23 June 1996.
