Description of the flag

Waregem (36,000 inhabitants) is located in the arrondissement of Kortrijk.

The flag is: Party per fess Argent and Gules, in chief inescutcheon: party per fess, I party per pale, Ia Argent a fleur-de-lys Gules, Ib Gules, a Moor voyant in proper colours crowned Or, with a belt Or, II Gules, three keys Or, inescutcheon Azure, a deer-head in proper colours, antlers Argent. Proportions are 2:3.

The municipal coat of arms can be seen on the municipal website. It seems that the Waregemers wanted a red/white flag, but that the Heraldic Council insisted on something distinguishable, wherefore the new coat of arms was put in the middle.

The flag was adopted on 1 December 1980.
