The flag is divided in cross in accordance with the Portuguese tradition [but see
Portuguese rules in Brazilian civic flags--Ed.]. In the center is the coat of arms of the city. The colors of the
flag are the same as those of the coat of arms. Each quarter is blue. On a white rhombus is the coat of arms.
Issuing from the rhombus red stripes divide the flag into four quarters. The coat of arms symbolizes the
municipal government, the rhombus the city itself, the stripes the radiation of municipal power to
all the parts of the municipal territory, and the blue quarters the rural areas of the municipality.
