About the Flag

Flag from the municipal website of Rio das Ostras. The coat of arms is at the same page.
Dov Gutterman, 23 February 2002

The blue wavy band is canting, as rio means "river"; the scallop shell on the arms may also be canting, even if ostras means "oysters", not "scallops." "Shell" is the key element here and heraldically a scallop suits better than an oyster. (Das means "of the".)
António Martins-Tuválkin, 28 February 2002
