The flag of Canela is a blue-white-blue vertical triband with the municipal
coat of arms on the center. The coat of arms is divided per fess. In
chief, on a gold field, is a green cinnamon tree, the tree from which the
city takes its name [canela=cinnamon]. The gold field represents the wealth
of the region and the faith and constancy of the people of Canela. In base,
on a silver (white) field representing the purity of the air and of the character of the
people are two green mountains with a third issuing from them forming a valley with a silver river running
out of it, representing the countryside of Canela. The shield is flanked on
either side by silver electrical towers connected by a silver cable,
symbolizing the Canastra power generation system. The shield is ensigned
with a gold mural crown with four towers visible. The red scroll is
inscribed Indústria - Canela - 28/12/1944 - Turismo. The colors of the shield and the scroll
together recall the colors of the national flag and the flag of the state of
Rio Grande do Sul.
