St. Albert's flag was chosen by the residents in a ballot and was officially approved by Council in 1980.

The description provided by the designer is as follows: "In abstract design, the blue and white, the colours of Quebec, recall the Metis and Francophones who were the first settlers in St. Albert. The traditional colours of Britain, red, white and blue, symbolize the many anglophones who contributed to the expansion of the community".
