The Progressive Party of the Working People - AKEL was created on
April 14, 1941 and constitutes a continuation of the Communist Party
of Cyprus (Koumounistiko Komma Kyprou - KKK) whose founding
Conference was held on August 15th, 1926, in Limassol.
AKEL is a left wing party based on Marxist-Leninist principles,
taking into account current international political and economic
developments.
