In France (and probably elsewhere), we used to tell children that babies
were born in a cabbage (boy) or a rose (girls) and brought to their parent
by a stork. The flag seems to show a modernized version of the story, the
stork bringing first a picture of the baby - or maybe his/her genotype,
before bringing the baby in the flesh and the bones.
