Description

Black-yellow-black banner [hanging flag] with the arms. Sources: flag from Staack 1997, arms from Stadler 1964-1971.

Stefan Schwoon, 7 March 2001

From Ralf Hartemink's International Civic Arms website:

The arms are a combination of the lion of the Pfalz and the arms of the Wittelsbach family (see the arms of Bavaria). The city was a possession of the Wittelsbach family, who were also Counts of the Palatinate. Amberg became a city at the end of the 13th century. The arms first appear on the seals in the 14th century. (...) The arms have not changed ever since. (...)

Literature: Stadler 1964-1971.

Santiago Dotor, 31 January 2002
