Description

Blue-yellow-red, adopted 03.04.1969. The county became part of Ostallgäu county during the 1972 municipal reform. Sources: Linder and Schmidt 2000, arms image from Stadler 1964-1972.

Stefan Schwoon, 27 August 2001

From Ralf Hartemink's International Civic Arms website:

The arms were granted in 1969 and show in the chief the sword as a symbol for St. Martin, the patron saint of both Marktoberdorf and Obergünzburg. The lower part combines the arms of the State of Augsburg [red-white] with the red and blue shield of the Abbey of Kempten. Both the bishops of Augsburg as the Prince-Abbotts of Kempten owned large parts of the county.

Literature: Stadler 1964-1972.
