Description

Finsterwalde, another town in Elbe-Elster County, uses a green-white banner with the arms in the middle. The colours are a reminder of the Saxon reign over the city until 1815. Source: Günther 1996c.

From Ralf Hartemink's International Civic Arms website:

The arms can already be seen on the oldest medieval seal of the city. The arms show the city wall and tower, with two canting trees, for the -wald (forest) part of the name.

Literature: Bensing et al. 1984.
