Tamsalu linn is part of Tamsalu vald since 20 October 2005.

After the joining of Tamsalu vald and Tamsalu linn, the municipality of Tamsalu vald is using former symbols of Tamsalu linn. Old symbols of Tamsalu vald is no more used.
