Description

Officially described as "green flag with two horizontal central stripes, white and yellow, as wide as 0.33 and 0.99 [sixths] of the flag's height, leaving two top and bottom stripes each as wide as 2.34 [sixths] of the flag's height". In other words, a horizontally striped flag green-white-yellow-green in proportions 234+33+99+234 i.e. 78+11+33+78 (which could be approximated as 7+1+3+7). I wonder who decided such weird proportions instead of simpler ones and why. Ratio 2:3.

Colours from the coat-of-arms. The yellow stripe represents the gold bar on the coat-of-arms, which is canting for camí ('path'). The white stripe represents the (canting) white village (vila) on the coat-of-arms. Flag adopted 2nd June 1993. Source for image and text: Fluvià 2001.
