Description

According to the Manual del Estado Español (Handbook of the Spanish State, Spanish text only) by Editorial Lama, this is a "historical flag" (meaning there is no known adoption date), purple with the provincial coat-of-arms in the center.

The normal flag proportions are 2:3, on its centre the coat-of-arms half as high as the flag. Whenever 2:3 is not used, the only alternative is 1:1. The shade of purple used for the field is Pantone 2613, which I have been unable to identify; a screen capture renders it as RGB 82-0-107. Whenever 2:3 ratio is not used, the only alternative is 1:1, used for example on official cars. In this case, the arms is to occupy almost all of the height — the image in the official source shows the arms about 82% as high as the flag. According to the Manual del Estado Español (Handbook of the Spanish State, Spanish text only) by Editorial Lama, this is the Spanish blazon of the coat-of-arms, adopted by the Diputación Provincial (provincial government) on 8th February 1949 and by Decree of 25th January 1949:

Cortado y partido en siete cuarteles, seis de los cuales representan simbólicamente los seis Partidos Judiciales antiguos de la provincia, y en el todo, el de la capital:
  1. Flanco diestro superior: Cortado, arriba águila bicéfala de sable en campo de plata; abajo, tres flores de lis de plata en campo de azur. Que es la Frechilla.
  2. Centro superior: Dos ciervos pasantes en la ribera de un río con un puente, de su color. Que es de Cervera.
  3. Flanco siniestro superior: Cuartelado en sotuer. Punta y jefe,cinco bandas de oro en campo de gules; diestro y siniestro, Leyenda "Ave María" de plata en campo azur. Que es de Saldaña.
  4. Flanco diestro inferior: Cortado. Arriba, estrella de siete puntas de oro en campo de sinople. Abajo cabeza de toro de su color en campo de gules. Que es de Estudillo.
  5. Centro inferior: Partido. Izquierda, carro de oro en campo de azur. Derecha, león rampante de gules en campo de plata. Que es de Carrión.
  6. Flanco siniestro inferior: Cinco torres de oro, aclaradas de azur en sotuer sobre campo de gules. Que es de Baltanas.
Escusón sobre el todo: Cuartelado. Primero y cuarto, cruz flordelisada de oro en campo de azur. Segundo y tercero, castillo aclarado en azur en campo de gules. Que es de Palencia. Como timbre, corona real abierta, y como divisa, a ambos lados, el mote "Armas y Ciencia".
