Description

San Xenxo (Spanish Sangenjo) is one of the most important tourist resorts in the Rías Bajas (southern estuaries) area of Galicia. The flag and coat-of-arms were published in the Diario Oficial de Galicia (Official Galician Bulletin) 14th August 2001.

The flag is (light) blue with an arm holding a lance on the hoist third and nine waves on the remaining 2/3rds, all in golden (sic) yellow. The flag represents the tradition of the nine historical parishes (Adina, Arra, Bordóns, Dorrón, Gondar, Nantes, Noalla, Padriñán and Vilalonga), the former jurisdiction of La Lanzada (the lance or lanza is canting arms), the sea (represented in the blue colour I guess) and the light over the estuaries (idem. yellow).

Sanxenxo's flag is flown from the city hall next to those of Galicia, Spain and the European Union.

I believe that San Xenxo is the Galician form of St Innocentius — thus Sangenjo is a crude castilianization since the Spanish form is San Inocencio.
