Vrpolje is located about 30 km east of Slavonski Brod, about half way between the highway and Đakovo. It has about 4,000 inhabitants. Vrpolje is probably best known as the birth place of the great Croatian sculptor Ivan Meštrović, whose works include number of monumental sculpures and complexes in former Yugoslavia and in the USA, to mention Indians in Chicago, the Unknown Hero tomb on Avala in Belgrade, the Njegoš Mausoleum on Lovćen (shown on the coat of arms of Socialist Montenegro), Grgur Ninski in Split; the Artists' Pavilion in Zagreb. There is a museum in Vrpolje with large collection of his works, too.

The symbols of Vrpolje are described in the Municipality Statutes Statut općine Vrpolje, adopted on 17 July 2009 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 23 July 2009 in the County official gazette Službeni vjesnik Brodsko-posavske županije, No. 9.
The symbols were designed by Predrag Barišić, from Vrpolje, who kindly provided material used to draw the images shown on this page.
The flag is in proportions 1:2, light blue with the coat of arms, bordered yellow, in the middle.

The coat of arms is "Azure, an acorn or between two corn ears of the same crossed in base".
