Shaghur (in Arabic: Al-Shaghur) was established as Local
Council in 2003 and is named after the stream that cross the
valley (Biq'at Bet HaKerem) in which it is situated. The Ministry
of the Interior decided to grant it a status of municipality on
March 2005.
Shagur is a unification of three local councils:
- Local Council of Bine with 6,800
inh. - Local Council since 1976
- Local Council of Deir Al-Asad with
8,400 inh. - Local Council since 1975
- Local Council of Majd Al-Kurum with
11,700 inh.- Local Council since 1964.
