Description of the flag

The Green-School flag is for schools in an ecological program. I am not sure if it is linked to the FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education) or merely tends to have the same local organisations, though I'd guess the former is leading to the latter. A quick check of their site (http://www.eco-schools.org) adds that the programme was developed in 1994. Regarding the different versions:

  • We have a Portuguese version: The two years in the flag show it is awarded for a school year, in the same way Blue Flags in the southern hemisphere are awarded for a summer season that requires two years to describe.
  • I'm not so sure about the number of versions. I'd say the Green Flag is usually undated. As an extreme example: Look at this page http://www.eco-schools.org/schools/schools.htm where apparently a school shows three green flags, which by different levels of wear could be interpreted as older an newer, but no years in sight.
  • If they started in 1994, then at least there must be both FEEE- and FEE-versions, or maybe nothing and FEE.
