Formed in 1931 as the Royal Iraqi Air Force, renamed in July 1958 to Al Quwwat
al-Jawwiya al-Iraqiya.

On the fin is painted the national flag. This marking changed when the
national flag changed.

The only change since 1931 was in tail insignia. While the Royal Iraqi Air Force used vertical
rudder stripes in green-white-red-black, since 1958 the national flag has been used as
fin flash (which was changed when the flag changed).
