The emblem is a stylised hiragana te ㊂ and a crane (of the Maizuru Mountain in the centre of the city), flapping its wings towards the sky, and symbolises Tendo's great leaping development. (The kanji Ten 天 of Tendo means heavens/sky.)
The flag's adoption came into force on 1 January 1990. The field colour is
given according JIS Z8721: hue 2.5P, brightness 3, saturation 8.
