Description of the flag

Higashiyamato city adopted its emblem on 1 April 1963 by Official Regulation No. 1

flag proportion: 2:3

colour of field: dark purplish blue

colour of emblem: white diameter of emblem: 3/5 flag height, a stylized kanji Yamato 大和 in the shape of bird's wing.
Nozomi Kariyasu, 10 March 2006

According to the city website, the emblem is a stylised kanji yama 大 (large, big) in the shape of wings, drawn with 2 circles, flapping to the heavens. This simultaneously has the meaning of harmony/peace (和, the "to" of Higashiyamato), symbolising development/growth and harmony/unity. Jonathan Dixon, 4 July 2006
