The city flag was adopted on Jun 1st 1970 by the City Notice No 29-2.

It is a green flag charged with white city emblem in the center. The flag proportions are 2:3

The city emblem is a stylized old kana カ KA depicted as two fans.

Originally Kobe was called port of fan. The two ports of Hyogo and Kobe looked like displayed fans.

The city variant flag was also adopted on June 1st 1970 which is white flag charged with red city emblem in the center.

The flag proportions are 2:3

The city flag has a different symbol than the city emblem, red, representing sun and happpiness and the green representing a happy town, adopted November 1970.
