Description

According to Nehmé 1995, "It consisted of a cross and a sword, both white, on a red cloth."

Santiago Dotor, 26 Sep 2000

The sword pointing to the left makes me wonder whether the image illustrates the Arabic obverse – with the hoist on the right hand side – cf. Saudi Arabian flag, where the sword points to the fly on both sides, or the flag of the former Kingdom of Yemen.

Santiago Dotor, 08 May 2003

Merdai: red flag with white cross and sword. Division in two branches: Kaysites and Yemenites (like the Guelphs and Ghibellines, and of course the Yemenites were not from Yemen) with red flags and white flags.
