Accordign to Antropoligist Alberto Ruz Lhuillier, el town of Cam-Pech
was founded about the III century A. D. Nearly this town, conquer of
Yucatán Francisco de Montejo, founded the
town San Francisco de Campeche that was granted a
coat of arms and the grade of city in 1777.
Campeche became the most important port and component part of the State
of Yucatan until the 1857 civial war that splic the state in two:
Campeche (like its new capital city) and Yucatán.
Campeche is famous because of the Colonial heritage: temples, lighthouses,
walls, castles, etc.

Campeche was part of the Departamento del Golfo. The registration
flag used about 1923, was white with a Saint George's cross in blue.
