Official name: Estado Libre y Soberano de Querétaro / Free and Sovereign State of Querétaro
Short-form names: Estado de Querétaro / State of Querétaro; Querétaro.
Location: State located in Center-south of Mexico. Between the 21º40' and 20º01' Lat. North, and 99º03' and 100º36' Long. South. It limits the Mexican States of Guanajuato (W and NW), San Luis Potosí (N), Hidalgo (E), México (SE), and Michoacán de Ocampo (SW).
Area: 11,978 km²
Municipalities: 18
Population: 1,404,306 inhabitants
Capital: Santiago de Querétaro, Querétaro (Pop.: 641,386)
Statehood: October 3, 1824

Samnitic shield, divided per pale and the II per fess: azure semee of stars argent, a sun or, half setting (but disc is 100% visible) and with human features, under a cruxifix proper, in chief dexter and sinister, two larger six (?) pointed stars argent; a horseman with coat and flag gules, riding a horse argent on a mound vert against a sky azure semee of stars argent; a tree and some grass proper also against a sky azure semee of stars argent. Partitions and edgewith golden frames, shield on a golden cartouche, all over two crossed mexican flags (no emblem); crest the national emblem (current form, but no wreath); compartment a trophy of cannons and swords; wreath of nopal, like in the national emblem.
