The badges for Northern and Southern Nigeria were added to the 1889 Admiralty Flag Book by an amendment issued in March 1901. I have not seen the text that went with the illustrations and don't know whether the defaced Union Jacks were used by High Commissioners as well as Governors.

1900. Northern territories of Royal Niger Company proclaimed a protectorate under a High Commissioner.

1908. High Commissioner replaced by a Governor.

1914. Amalgamated with Southern Nigeria.
