Burum / Boerum - "Flag: Chequy, red and yellow of nine rectangles on three horizontal stripes; the central rectangle is black.
Colors: clear-red, princes-yellow and black.
The black color refers to the times when the abbot of Gerkesklooster held jurisdiction over Burum; his symbol was a black cross. Nickname: poepen (because they forgot their Frisian language and spoke Poeps - Grunnings or Groningers) and bollen (bulls, also grumpy people).
Source: information from Kollumerland municipality.
