Description: blue with four brown floats, placed in a curve from bottom
left to top right, the bottom one emanating from the bottom and the top
one from the top, gradually placed more straight and i9ncreassing in area.
The blue field refers to the water of the Berkel River, the brown floats
to the watermills. The floats symbolize dynamics, nostalgia and energy.
Adopted by municipal resultion on 22 Nov 2005
Stefan Lambrechts, 25 Jul 2006
Berkelland is named after the small river Berkel, which has been "restored" by common efforts in the Netherlands and Germany. This inspired the studio Stijlgenoten in Den Ham to design a logo representing the wheel of a watermill. Part of this logo was used on the municipal flag.
It looks a bit unusual, but possesses the qualities of a good flag:
simple, used symbolism (stylized waterwheel), two colors, no text or coat
of arms, and unique.
