Number of inhabitants (1 Jan 2003): 6.177; area: 34,75 km². Settlements: Ell, Haler, Hunsel (seat), Ittervoort, Neeritter.
Hunsel is southeast of Weert in central Limburg near the Belgian border. It is a rural municipality, to which in 1942 Ittervoort and Neeritter were added.
The horn on the flag is derived from the CoA of the Van Horn family. The eagle is a reminder of historical relationships with the city of Thorn.
