Luyksgestel former municipality

Luyksgestel is a former municipality in Noord-Brabant province, since 1997 part of Bergeyk.
Flag: 7 stripes of yellow and red; in bottom fly three green contoured trees on green base, of three stripes height; in top hoist a black square charged with a yellow lion rampant armed red, adopted 5 Nov 1987.

This is an old settlement, dating probably from before Roman times. In the Middle Ages it belonged to the Prince/Bishop of Luik/Liège until 1794. When Noord-Brabant and Limburg were "Generaliteitslanden" (ruled directly by the States General, which appointed a governor, from 1648-19th century) Luyksgestel was an enclave, where Catholics were allowed to practice their religion openly.
