Stede Broec was formed on 1 Jan 1979 by the merger of the former municipalities of Bovenkarspel and Grootebroek.
Flag: A green canton with a white five-pointed star; white bottom hoist with a planted green judicicial linden-tree; the fly is white-green; the alternating stripes divided by at least eight embattlements.
