Axel [former] municipality

On 1 July 1970 Axel, Koewacht, Overslag and Zuiddorpe merged to form the new municipality of Axel, the flag in use is the same as the former municipality of Axel. On 2 Jan 2003 Axel merged, together with Sas van Gent with Terneuzen municipality.

Axel CoA

The CoA was adapted slightly after the merger in 1970. The lion got dressed up a bit, by giving him a golden crown and golden nails, he know has a red tongue and a golden collar with a cross around his neck. The CoA was approved by Royal decree on 17 June 1970.
