About the flag

Gamvik municipality is situated in Finnmark county.

Like Måsøy, Gamvik has found a characteristic maritime tool to emphasize the importance of fishing: The needle used to make and mend fish nets. Three of these, in yellow colour, are set diagonally on a red field. The flag was approved by Royal resolution dated 28 September 1990. As for the illustration, to fill the field, I made the middle needle larger than the two on the sides.

Blazon

Official blazon in Norwegian: "I rødt tre skråstilte gule garnnåler."

Blazoned in English: "Gules three net needles or palewise."
English blazon by Željko Heimer, 30 July 2002
