About the flag

Corvo, by the way, means "crow", which makes the coat of arms semi-canting.
Jorge Candeias, 05 Mar 2003

Area: 17 km2. Population: 387 inhabitants.
Francisco Santos, 05 Mar 2003

Apart from the goshawk, another bird that has some meaning in azorean toponymy and vexillology is the Crested Cormorant (Phalacrocorax aristotelis), in portuguese Corvo-do-mar-preto (meaning "black sea crow") — which gave the name of the smallest and NW-most island and shows in its flag.
António Martins, 14 Sep 1999
