Corvo, by the way, means "crow", which makes the
coat of arms semi-canting.
Jorge Candeias, 05 Mar 2003
Area: 17 km2. Population: 387 inhabitants.

Apart from the goshawk, another bird that has
some meaning in azorean toponymy and vexillology is the Crested Cormorant
(Phalacrocorax aristotelis), in portuguese Corvo-do-mar-preto
(meaning "black sea crow") — which gave the name of the smallest and
NW-most island and shows in its flag.
António Martins, 14 Sep 1999
