The flag is gyronny of eight, blue and
yellow; in the center, the coat of arms. These are: or, a castle azure,
open or, with two doves argent, each perched on each of the lateral towers,
both facing the center of the shield, in chief, the cross of the
Order of Christ’s Knights.

"pombal" means "pigeon house" so here we have here some canting
arms.
