Old settlement, with rich cultural traditions, Craiova lying on the left bank of the river Jiu, is placed between 44o2' North latitude, 23o5' Eastern longitude and an altitude between 75-116 meters, having over 300,000 inhabitants. Residence of Dolj County, powerful economic center, Craiova is situated roughly in the center of Oltenia, being 227 km far from the capital of Romania, Bucharest.
