The Balkirs were deported 1945-1954 for their collaboration with
the nazis and during this time the republic was only of the Kabardin.
The inscriptions are in Russian and Kabard.

In 1957 Kabardino-Balkar ASSR was restored
(along with Kalmyk ASSR,
Chechen-Ingush ASSR and Karachai
AR). Flags attributed to these entities between 1944 and 1957 are,
certainly, due to an error.
