Description of the flag

On October 1, 2002, the Sangamon County Board unveiled the proposed flag design for the official Sangamon County Flag at a press conference in the County Board Chambers. Members of the press and media, elected officials and the artist, Ashley Schutt, were in attendance. It is red-white-blue tricolor, with the white twice as wide as the others, and bearing the county seal, a thick black ring and the text SEAL OF SANGAMON COUNTY, ILLINOIS and the date 1821. In the yellow centre is a map outline of the county overlain by a profile of Abraham Lincoln. Down the edges of both the red and blue stripes, near the central stripe, isa row of 14 yellow stars.
