Description of the flag

A white flag, with the city seal in the center. The seal consists of a coastal scene with sailing ships approaching land. Across the top are three dates, and a ribbon bearing MANET. The city name and date 1888 are at the bottom. The seal is edged with yellow beading. Quincy is in Norfolk County.

I believe that the four dates and the motto placed on the emblem highlight the permanency of the city through history. "Manet" means in Latin "[It] remains". The root "mane-" is also used in "permanent" and "remanent". A famous Latin maxim says: "Verba volant, scripta manent", words are blown away, writings remain.
