In the "Yesteryears" column of the Somerset Herald (Princess Anne, Md.) of April 23, 1997 there is a reference to the flag. Here is the item and I quote
"An Eastern Shore flag presented to the Eastern Shore Society in Baltimore. The flag consisted of a blue field decorated with nine stars: red, buff, and purple stripes, and the Union Jack. The blue represented Kent County, the first county; the red, Cecil; the purple, Talbot; the Union Jack, Somerset; and buff for Dorchester county; and the stars, the counties of the Eastern Shore."The column was quoted from an issue of The Herald in 1917.
